ITEM 3. WENDELL TREE BOARD
The Wendell Tree Board met on Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Board members discussed the heat and watering of new trees planted at Arbor Day events held recently at Wendell schools. Discussion also included the planting of trees this Fall at the Park, such as shade trees near the ball fields that would provide shade for spectators. Mr. Tim Kay presented a flag, hat and plaque to the Tree Board for the town’s 27 years of participation in the Tree City USA program. The next meeting of the board will be in late August with the date and time to be announced. For inquiries and suggestions, please contact Mr. Tim Kay at 366-2266.
ITEM 4. EWTV-DIGITAL ENCODER
East Wake TV will be purchasing a digital Video Encoder in July for the Wendell Board meetings. The Encoder will allow meetings to be streamed from the Wendell Courtroom to EWTV in Knightdale. The encoder will provide a better quality picture as well as reduce problems occurring from defective discs or malfunctioning equipment. The encoder will also eliminate the need to transport the DVD to the station each morning following the meeting. The encoder will provide capability for board meetings to be shown live, if the board chooses to do so.
ITEM 5. CAMP CHOICES - WENDELL POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department has finalized plans for its first camp, “Camp Choices.” The camp will run August 2, 2010 through August 6, 2010. The department is pleased to announce that staff from the Poe Center will be on hand to educate Wendell’s youth on choices and consequences related to tobacco, alcohol, and various other topics. The Poe Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to positively impacting the lives of North Carolina youth through health education.

Please look at our new logo’s below. Also attached to the email are pictures of the Tahoe and trailer. The camp has space for 40 participants and a limited number of spaces are available. ITEM 8. HOUSE BILL 681- EXTENSION OF DEVELOPMENT PERMITS
Legislation was just introduced in the N.C. Senate that would extend the grandfathering of approved development permits by an additional two years.
The Permit Extension Act passed last year by the N.C. General Assembly suspended the expiration of
development permits that were approved by local governments across the state between 1/1/08 and 12/31/10. Now there is a proposal to extend this grandfathering for another two years. The language to do this has been inserted by the Senate into House Bill 683 (see Section 2 at end): http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2009/Bills/House/PDF/H683v2.pdf.
Extending this period for another two years could hinder the ability of local governments to implement updated development standards for these projects and sites.
